Recorded in 2007, The Four Daughters “Women’s Voices and Songs from Zimbabwe” was devised and developed by Joyce Jenje Makwenda, Zimbabwe’s preeminent musical historian.

Joyce selected twelve classic songs famously sung and also (with only one exception) composed by Zimbabwean female artists and then hand-picked four young, relatively unknown female vocalists to record new versions of them.

Never previously released, the album showcases the history of popular female song in Zimbabwe from the 20th century in twelve new recordings, produced, arranged & recorded by renowned South African guitarist Louis Mhlanga.
